STM Scout MacBook Air 11″ Bag Review

June 29, 2011

GearZap.com have sent me the STM Scout 11″ shoulder bag to review, which is the perfect, compact size to hold both an iPad as well as a 10″ netbook or for me personally the 11″ MacBook Air. I’m a little gutted that the new MacBook Airs are about to be refreshed, as all the rumours put to a faster processors, as you might expect and the new thunderbolt port. It looks like lots of people will be needing a new MacBook Cable then, though the uptake so far of thunderbolt has been relatively slow, as equipped devices are still expensive. That aside, it won’t stop me from enjoying my beautiful MacBook Air and now I have a create MacBook bag to carry it around in. So, on to the review…

STM Scout Extra Small Shoulderbag 11" - OliveSTM bags are an Australian company who pride themselves on creating some of the best MacBook Accessories around,  and their bags and cases have an excellent reputation on all of the Apple forums. The bag is a military green olive colour, which is a bit more interesting than your standard black colour which is available for nearly all bags, and this one is no exception. The green colour is a good one, as it’s not bright enough to stand out too much, and will hide any dirt it will inevitably pick up as part of daily use.

The bag has a good amount of space as you can see from the above photo. It serves as a good bag for your iPad too, which can be easily slid into the bag, along with either your laptop or MacBook Air. This bag wouldn’t be a suitable laptop case as it’s far too small, but it’s just right for the smaller more portable devices. Some people would go for a MacBook Air case for the best protection, which is understandable for the best protection, but this bag is a lot easier to carry around. It might be possible to have a MacBook sleeve on your MacBook, and then to put it inside this bag, but you’d have to make sure it was a slim fitting sleeve, such as the Speck MacBook Cases.

MacBook Air 11 BagThe bag has two good sized front pockets, which are perfect for carrying around cables, chargers, external hard drives etc, and there are two main internal compartments, which are separated to ensure your devices don’t knock each other around. It is held secure a front buckle and the strap is totally removable and fully adjustable too, with a comfortable padded shoulder rest.

Features:

  • Two front pockets and an extra zipped front pocket
  • Dual internal compartments
  • Adjustable strap
  • Olive Green finish
  • Made by top brand STM

Price

£44.95

Overall this is a great bag for the MacBook Air 11, it’s relatively lightweight, and well designed, and has certainly been made with Apple products in mind. It’s a little pricey at £44.95, but you certainly get what you pay for!
