Sennheiser PXC 150

August 20, 2009

Think about it.  For less than the price of a few CDs you can gets the acoustic experience audiophiles would have paid tens of thousands of dollars just a few years ago.  The Sennheiser PXC 150 is one of those kinds of headphones you get to hear all that extra music musicians often put on the albums.  The kind that doesn’t really get communicated very well using bass heavy cars stereos.  If you’re the kind of person who would buy a CD rather than download a low quality i-Tune track then these are the kind of headphones you want to have at your disposal.

Face it, these days there seem to be people everywhere and finding some escape from the loud distracting environmental noise pollution is a talent the Sennheiser PXC 150 has in spades.  Not only does it deliver sound in pure high dynamic range  streams but it actively cancels out the repetitive and wearing drones and sound washes so common in the urban and suburban environments that are otherwise relatively pleasant places to relax in.

Sennheiser PXC 150s It may be hard to appreciate how much environmental noise you are exposed to on a daily basis.  Even when you’re sitting in your living room playing music you may be subject to its deleterious effects.  For example, you may not hear a fan or your air conditioning unit. The noise of cars, trains and planes are also often only dealt with unconsciously by the mind.  When you think about experiencing music as a foreground experience you can appreciate the added benefit of a background of environmental silence, but how are you ever be able to do that in the real world?

The technology powering the Sennheiser PXC 150s

The Sennheiser PXC 150 actively processes the environmental noise the listener is subjected to and using some fancy acoustical principles having to do with wave cancellation, it removes the sounds from the environment before they reach your ear.

A luxurious way to listen to music

This is truly a luxurious way to listen to music.  The noise cancellation effect is noticeable even when no music is playing.  It sounds like you put plugs in your ear except if someone talks you can hear them clearly and distinctly.  So unless you happen to have a cork lined listening room these headphones may be your only way to experience the real impact of the music you listen to.  The Sennheiser PXC 150s are an economical way to replicate the experience many people have paid millions of dollars for over the years.  If you walk into a good old fashioned audio store you will often see the often ludicrously insufficient way the store owners make a show of having "listening rooms" but how many of those are even real?  With a set of these headphones you can be assured of getting the most out of the music you choose to listen to.
